A sprawling landscape dotted with farms and small strongholds, Mallowlay is the chief agricultural district of the kingdom. Farms produce everything from meat to crops to mounts, and skilled traders turn the raw materials into items and delicacies revered throughout the kingdom. The horses and ponies of Mallowlay in particular are coveted throughout the empire, and the lands are generally peaceful and prosperous. The Closed Council rule the lands firmly but fairly, but are generally disdainful of Serenity and try to maintain operations outside the control of the capitol.
The people of Mallowlay vary from the incredibly wealthy landowners to the poor vegetable pickers that work on the farms, and in times of scarcity it can be a very difficult place for the poor to live. When times get tough battles between opposing farmsteads and strongholds are common, resulting in constant power shifts that are near impossible to control or predict. Organised raids against other districts are rare but not unheard of.
Places of InterestThe Green Hall – The centre of the Mallowlay district, this hall is actually a collection of buildings wherein reside the council and their staff. All of the major decisions for the district are made here, as well as disputes settled and plans drawn up. It is lightly guarded at all times and is generally peaceful. Several gardens and a small healing church tend to visitors.
Riverbank School – This small school sits on the banks of the Clyro river and it is far more concerned with traditional teaching than magical, as those are the skills that are in much higher demand in this district. The cost to send a child here is low, and children who show a natural talent or magical ability that could aid the district are often sponsored by a ruling family to study here.
The Clyro River – Winding its way through Mallowlay, this river is the largest in the kingdom and passes from the Icewell mountains right down to Blueway by the sea. The river is full of salmon, pike, crayfish and other tempting edibles, but it is also home to kelpies, rock snakes and other dangerous predators.
The Free Plains – Whilst most of Mallowlay is farmsteads and strongholds held by individuals and families who would not take trespass lightly, the free plains are open to all and are a very popular location for hunting parties. In past years, however, the area has been hunted so hard that many species are struggling to recover, and prize trophies are getting rarer and rarer.
